Karl LENDT (born on June 2nd, 1903 in Vienna), son of Jacques and Betty (nee Tritsch) Lendt, lived in Vienna's 2nd district, Lilienbrunngasse 2/6 and studied Political Economics at the Law School at the University of Vienna and graduated on July 21st, 1927 with the academic degree 'Dr. rer.pol.' After his emigration he was denaturalized from the German Reich on June 18, 1941 and he was deprived of his academic degree on July 17, 1942 – like his brother Stefan Lendt who had studied Law and graduated in 1934 – with the racist argument, that he as a Jew was not considered dignified an academic degree of a German university ('eines akademischen Grades einer deutschen Hochschule unwuerdig'). It took 13 years since the deprivation – and a very long time since the end of Nazism – until the regranting of the doctorate took finally place on May 15th, 1955. After his studies he was engaged in the cotton industries in Bremen/Germany, from 1928 to 1930, was concsultant to the "Tannwalder Baumwollspinnerei", 1930 as delegate of the Association of Austrian Cotton Industries ("Verband der Oesterreichischen Textilindustrie") to reorganize the cotton mill "Prinz Kyrillâ" in Gabrovo/Bulgaria, where he became director. 1933 he applied for becoming honorary consul in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, lateron he lived an worked in Sweden. In the mid-1940s he emigrated to the USA and settled in the state of New York, lived first in Rye and moved to White Plains in the mid-1950s. On December 24, 1949 he and Kay Ehrenfeldt were married in New York City and they had a son, Christopher K. Lendt. Karl Lendt founded the company "Lendt & Co. Inc." in Manhattan, that represented manufacturers of textile machinery and products for the cable and wire industry and was engaged in international sales e.g. to Morocco, Egypt and Syria. He owned the business until his retirement in 1990. Karl Lendt died on June 17th, 1996 in White Plains, New York/USA.
