Jakob HABERMANN (Jacob HABERMAN), born on September 13
th, 1912 in Gólógóry/Poland [Ukraine] (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Rowanska/Poland, Citizenship: Poland), son of Markus Leib (Mordechai Arie) Habermann (Rabbi, 1882-1945) and Sima Habermann, née Schorr (1885-1926), lived in Vienna's 9
th district, Meynertgasse 6/9, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 4th and last year of his studies and took courses in History and Geography ('Absolutorium' was certified on January 22
nd, 1938).
He registered for the final exams on October 8
th, 1937 already and passed the first exam ('Rigorosum') on December 18
th, 1937. But in March 1938 the examination procedure is interrupted. After the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason witout graduation and to leave the University of Vienna.
His younger brother
Oswald Habermann (1915-1997), who studied at the Philosophical School, too, was also expelled from the University of Vienna.
Jakob Habermann had to flee from Vienna and could emigrate to the USA. After the end of Second World War he presented his dissertation in History: "
Die Rolle des Individuums in der Geschichte nach Jacob Burckhardt" (doctoral advisors: Santifaller, Mueller) to the University of Vienna in 1947, but no approbation nor a graduation is to be found in the records.
Jacob Haberman died on December 21
st, 1975 in New York and is burried on
New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, Suffolk County, NY/USA.
