Hanna Elisabeth ELIAS (married KAPIT), born on June 16th, 1917 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Herbert Elias (physician) and Ilse von Arnim, lived in Wien 9, Liechtensteinstraße 2. After she attended the 'Reichsanstalt für Mutter- und Säuglingspflege" in 1935/36, she was enrolled at the University of Vienna in fall term 1936/37 finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 2nd year of her studies and took courses in Psychology and Art History.
She emigrated to the USA in 1938 - as well as her brother Kurt Elias, who was expelled from the Vienna University as a student, too. She married Dr. Eric Husserl, who died in 1949. Together with her second husband Dr. Milton Kapit, who died in 2005, she wrote the book "Freud and the Culture of Psycholanalysis".
She lived and workes in New York/USA where she died on June 9th, 2011.

The exhibition "Ausgegrenzt, Vertrieben, Ermordet" (January 22nd - May 14th, 2010) at the Department of History of Art of the University of Vienna is dedicated to the memory of Hanna Elias and 20 other former students of the University of Vienna focused on art history.
