Franz Rudolf GÖTZL, born on September 28th, 1914 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Dr. Alfred Götzl (university professor, senior physician), lived in Wien 19, Billrothstraße 18, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 5th year of his studies. (university lecturer (‘Privatdozent’), senior physician of the tuberculosis care of the City of Vienna) and Paula (née Spitzer, born on 23.5.1886). They lived in Wien 19, Billrothstraße 18. Franz Rudof Götzl was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 5th and last year of his studies. Shortly before he could finish his studies in medicine, he was forced to quit and to leave the university for racist reason without a possibility to graduate. He emigrated with his parents and his sister Johanna in February 1939 to the USA and could finish his medical studies there and was also gained a Ph.D. He lived and worke as a physician and researcher in San Francisco and in Berkeley, Alameda County, California. He was married to Jean Howden-Goetzl (died 2007) and had two sons, Charles (Oakland) and Randall (San Francisco). Franz R. Goetzl published books and articles on cancer (e.g. "Blood Histamine in Leukemia and Erythremia" (Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Volume 9, Issue 5-6, 1 April 1949), "Blood histamine in myelogenous leukemia" (1951). He was a member of the Laboratory of Experimental Oncology, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Public Health Service, and the Division of Medicine, University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco, California; the Division of Radiology, University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco, California; and head of the Department of Medical Research, Permanente Foundation, Oakland, California. He was engaged in PSR (physicians for social responsibility) and other social welfare projects and community organisationen. He died in November 1981 aged 67 in den USA.
