Ernst LÖWENSTEIN (born on January 24th, 1878 in Karlsbad, Bohemia/Autro-Hungaria [Karlovy Vary/Czech Republic], died on August 28th, 1950 in Berkeley/California, USA) was lecturer ('Privatozent') for general and experimental pthology at the Medical School of the University of Vienna with the title of an extraordinary professor.
He was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew lost his position and was thrown out of the university on April 22nd, 1938.
Also his sons
Karl Otto Löwenstein (born 1916), "demonstrator" at the 1st chair for anatomy (Prof. Sauser) and in the 4th year of his medical studies, and Dr.
Hans Georg Löwenstein (1914-1988), unpaid assistant physician at the 1st ophthalmic clinic (head: Prof. Meller) were forced to leave the university for racist reason after the "Anschluss" in 1938.
He was able to emigrate to England and then to the USA.
