Bernhard Eugen BAUMGARTEN (later: Yissacher BOIMBGARTEN), born on March 2nd, 1919 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship 1938: Austria), son of Dr. Camillo Baumgarten (director of an orphanage and high school professor for religion, 1887-1935) and Beate, née Danziger (1893-1942), lived in Vienna's 2nd district, Am Tabor 18/9, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 1st year of his studies and took courses in History, Philosophy and Oriental Studies. After the takeover of power of National-Socialism in 1938 he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason without a chance to go on. He requested to continue his studies in the context of the 2% numerus clausus of Jewish Students, but was rejected and had to leave the University of Vienna. Leaving Certificate ('Abgangszeugnis') was issued on September 21st, 1938). He had to flee Austria and was able to emigrate to Palestine [Israel]. He was married to Tova Gittle Baumgarten, née Protter, and they had three children.
His mother Beate Baumgarten was deported from Vienna, Vereinsgasse 16/7, to Izbica/Poland on May 12th, 1942 and murdered.

Yissacher Boimgarten (née Bernhard Eugen Baumgarten) died on July 18th, 1988 in Haifa/Israel and is buried in Tsur Shalom Cemetery, Route 791, Kiryat Bialik, Haifa, Haifa District/Israel.
