Margarethe MAGER (married VONDRUŠKA / WONDRUSCHKA), born on August 18th, 1915 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna, citizenship 1938: Austria), as daughter of Dr. Karl Mager (1872–1939, councilor of the Supreme Court) and Margarethe Mager, née Hayek (1884–1973) had passed the school-leaving examination (Reifepruefung/Matura) on June 24th, 1933 at the Mädchenrealgymnasium des Schulvereins für Beamtentöchter in Vienna's 8th district, Lange Gasse 47. She was enrolled at the School of Philosophy from the fall term of 1933/34 to the spring term of 1937 and took courses in prehistory, anthropology and ethnology. She was no longer enrolled in 1938 but was already in the examination stage.
After the Anschluss in 1938, she was persecuted for racist reasons as a so-called "Mischling 1. degree", but could provisionally - with revocation at any time - continue her studies or the examination procedure.
She had registered for the viva voce ("Rigorosen") in Prehistory on November 28th, 1938, and had passed the "one-hour Rigorosum" or "Philosophicum" on December 17th, 1938 (examiners: Reininger, Kainz). On March 19th, 1940, she had also submitted her dissertation entitled "Chronological Study of the Early Bronze Age Burial Field at Gemeinlebarn" (supervisor: Menghin). The dissertation had been approved on April 20th, 1940. On July 13th, 1940, she had also passed the second viva (examiners: Menghin, Egger, Hassinger). However, she was still not allowed to graduate for racist reaosons.
Only after the end of National Socialism was she able to obtain her doctorate on November 19th, 1945, on the basis of her examination performance from 1938-1940.
When she received her doctorate in 1945, she already had the surname Vondruška, because she was married to Wilhelm Paul Wondruschka (1912-1994) and they had three daughters, all of whom later also married (Ms. Richter, Ms. Schorr and Ms. Strauss).
Little is known about her further live and career for the time being.
Dr. Margaretha Wondruschka (Vondruška), née Mager, died in Vienna on April 22nd, 1990, and was buried at the Vienna Hietzing cemetery.
