Harald LISTABARTH, born on July 12
th, 1915 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Leopold Listabarth (musician, 1890-1937), lived in Vienna's 10
th district, Sonnwendgasse 2/II/14. In the summer of 1936, he had passed his school-leaving examination at the Rainergymnasium, in Vienna's 5
th district, and in the fall term of 1937/38 he enrolled at the School of Philosophy and attended courses in physics, chemistry, biology and botany. He transferred to the School of Medicine in the third semester and began his medical studies there. He was enrolled in fall term 1938/39 at the Medical School in the 1
st year of his medical studies.
He was discriminated as a so called "Mischling 1. Grades" under National Socialist blood laws although he declared himself as "gottglaeubig ("God-believing") as his religious confession, later as Roman Catholic: But he could continue his studies at first - subject to revocation at any time. Despite passing all examinations as of December 1944, he was not allowed to earn a doctorate during the Nazi era.
Only immediately after the end of Nazi rule he was able to graduate on June 8
th, 1945, with his diploma backdated to December 7
th, 1944, the date on which he had fulfilled all doctoral requirements except for proof of "pure Aryan racial affiliation."
He then lived and worked as a physician in Vienna's 16
th, later 13
th district, and was married to Anna Listabarth (1923-1989) and they had a son, Gerold (1943-1956).
Dr. Harald Listabarth died on January 28
th, 1979 in Vienna and is buried at the cemetery in Ober St. Veit in Vienna.
