Heinrich LEHNDORFF (born on May 26th, 1877 in Vienna, died on September 17th, 1965 in New York City) had received his specialist training as pediatrician at the Karolinen children’s hospital in Vienna. In 1915 he became lecturer ('Dozent') for Kinderheilkunde at the Medical School of the University of Vienna, later head of the children’s ambulatory of the Arbeiterkrankenversicherung (Workers‘ health insurance)
He was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew lost his position and was thrown out of the university on April 22nd, 1938.
Heinrich Lehndorff was able to emigrate to England together with his wife and his daughter in spring 1939, where he got a temporary unpaid position as an consultant physician in a children’s hospital in Coleshill, Warwickshire.By the end of the year 1939 the family emigrated further to the USA, where he got the permission to work as medical practitioner in 1942. He opened a private practice in New Rochelle, NY and worked as a consultant pediatrician at the New York Medical College.
