Richard LANGER, born on September 10
th, 1919 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Anna Langer (retired post officer), lived in Vienna's 4
th district, Klagbaumgasse 8, was enrolled in spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 1
st year of his studies.
After the "Anschluss" in 1938, he was able to continue his studies for the time being, only when he could not fully prove his "Aryan" descent in the 10th and final term in 1944, he was no longer categorized as "Aryan" but as a so-called "Mischling 1st degree". He had been able to continue his studies until then (despite military service as a soldier), now he was forced for racist reasons to quit his studies and to leave the University of Vienna. His application to be admitted to the 3rd and last Rigorosum in April 1944 was successful, but a promotion or even professional activity was prohibited, although he had survived the required "front probation" as a Wehrmacht soldier, bearer of the Iron Cross II class and the Luftwaffenerdkampabzeichen and was wounded in the course of the war (grade I), he was only admitted to the Rigorosum on May 30th, 1944, but to graduation and profession.
He could finish his studies only after the end of National-Socialism and graduated on June 8
th, 1945 - the diploma was backdated to June 16
th, 1944, the day he had passed the final examination and fulfilled all requirements for graduation except affiliation to "aryan race" (in National-Socialist terms).
He lived and worked lateron as a physician in Vienna and was appointed "Medizinalrat".
Dr. Richard Langer died aged 82 on April 17
th, 2002 in Vienna and is burried at Grinzing cemetery in Vienna.
