Alfred LANDAU, born on December 25
th, 1918 in Vienna (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Dr. Ignaz Landau (lawyer) and Helene Leonore Landau, née Fried Weinheber, , lived in Vienna's 1
st district, Rathausplatz 8, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Law School in the 2
nd year of his studies.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he she was forced to quit his her studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna.
His father Dr. Ignaz Landau (1879-19??) had to close his law office in Vienna's 1
st district, Hohenstaufengasse 7 in 1938 for racist reasons and had to flee Vienna. He was able to emigrate to London, England/Great Britain in November 1938; little is known about his fate.
Alfred Landau also had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to Paris/France for the time being (as did his sister Eugenie Landau (Jenny Perot)) until he received his U.S. entry papers on November 22
nd and managed to emigrate to the U.S. via Le Havre/France on the
SS Normandie, arriving in New York City, NY on December 23
rd, 1938 and initially living with his uncle Joseph Landau in The Bronx, New York City, NY.
Alfred Landau applied for US citizenship in New York on July 7
th, 1939. He was registered for the U.S. Army on October 16
th, 1940 (at that time he resided in Holyoke, Hamden/MA) and entered the U.S. Army on December 16
th, 1943 at Springfield, MA.
He became a US citizen on March 16
th, 1944 and later lived in Rockville Centre, NY.
Alfred Landau died on August 29
th, 2004 in New York, NY/USA.
