Raoul KLUGMANN (later: KLOOGMAN), born on May 25th, 1914 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Bernhard Klugmann (merchant), lived in Wien 13, Titlgasse 15, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 4th year of his studies.
Shortly after the "Anschluss" 1938 Raoul Klugmann was arrested and deported to the concentrations camps Dachau and Buchenwald.
After his release, he initially fled to Great Britain by the end of January 1939 together with his sister Edith (married Green) and her son. There he worked for the Refugee Committee.
In April 1940 he emigrated to New York/USA. He changed his name to Kloogman. He was able to complete his medical studies at the Middlesex University in Massachusetts in 1943 received an internship in New York. There he met his future wife Ruth Weisman, whom he married in Basel/Switzerland on July 11th, 1945. From 1953 until 1955 he served in the US-Army Medical Corps.
He settled in Great Neck, New York, where he practised as a physician for 40 years. He was a member of the Jewish Community in Great Neck and helfed founding the North Shore University Hospital.
Raoul Kloogman died on September 21st, 2001 in Great Neck, New York.
