Jakob KLEIN, born on July 19th, 1898 in Ungarisch Weisskirchen, Vojvodina/Austro-Hungarian Empire [later: Bela Crkva|Бела Црква/S.H.S/Yugoslavia, today: Serbia] (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), lived since 1914 in Vienna's 9th district, Rotenloewengasse 5. He was enrolled since 1929 until finally in the spring term 1938 at the Philosophical School in the 9th year of his studies as extraordinary student and took courses in Art History, Zoology and Philosophy.
Jakob Klein was married to Paula Epstein (born 1889 in Prague) and worked as a bookkeeper.
In 1939 he moved out of his flat, where he had lived for 25 years, to Vienna's 1st district, Maria-Theresien-Strasse 24. In March, 1940 he left Vienna, on his residence registration form the USA are noted as destination.
The exhibition "Ausgegrenzt, Vertrieben, Ermordet" (January 22nd - May 14th, 2010) at the Department of History of Art of the University of Vienna is dedicated to the memory of Jakob Klein and 20 other former students of the University of Vienna focused on art history.
