Bruno Klein

Bruno KLEIN (born on October 11th, 1879 in Raycza near Bielitz/Galicia [Rajcza/Polen], Austrian citizenship, died on April 14th, 1954 in Vienna) was lecturer ('Dozent') for dentistry ('Zahnheilkunde') at the Medical School of the University of Vienna. The son of Adolf Klein (district physician in Rajcza near Bielitz/Galicia [Rajcza/Poland] attended high school ('Gymnasium') in Bielitz and in Maehrisch Schoenberg [Šumperk/Czech Republic] and graduated there in 1899. He began to study medicine at the University of Vienna in fall term 1899/1900 and attended courses of E. Zuckerkandl,  Karl Toldt, Schrötter, Eiselsberg A. Weichselbaum and Scheff and graduated in Vienna on July 24th, 1905 at the Medical School with the academic degree 'Dr. med.'  Subsequently, Bruno Klein became a demonstrator at the Dental University Institute and was promoted 2nd assistant in 1907 and 1st assistant in 1911. In 1916 he received the venia legendi for dentistry and became 'Privatdozent' and was officiating head of the dental department from 1918 to 1920. On July 27th, 1920 he received the title of a 'ao. Prof.'. During World War I he was a military physician ('Regimentsarzt') and lived in Viennas 8th district, Lederergasse 31, from 1930 on in Laudongasse 11/4, since December 24, 1934 in Vienna's 18th district, Scheidlgasse 55, together with his wife, Else (Elisabeth) Klein (born 1885) and their two children Rudolf (born 1920) and Erich (born 1922). He was a member of the Association of dentist of Vienna ('Verein Wiener Zahnaerzte'), Assoc. Austrian Stomatologist ('Verband oesterreichische Stomatologen') and the Orthodontic Society of Vienna ('orthodontischen Gesellschaft Wien').Bruno Klein was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew lost his position and was thrown out of the university on April 22nd, 1938. He became consultant physician of oral surgery at the Rothschild-hospital of the Jewish Community and survived the National Socialist period in Vienna.  On August 22, 1945 he received the venia legendi for dentistry again from Vienna University and lectured there again as 'Privatdozent (tit.ao.Prof.)'.
