Bruno KAWALER (later: KAVALER), born on May 11
th, 1916 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Aron Kawaler (1877-1959, merchant) and Pearl Kawaler, née Kesler recte Bernzweig (1877-1952), lived in Vienna's 3
rd district, Krieglergasse 6, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Law School in the 4
th and last year of his studies.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna.
He had to flee Vienna and managed to emigrate to the USA in time via Le Havre/France and arrived on the
SS Washington in New York City, NY on June 24
th, 1938. His parents and his four siblings - Leo Kavaler, Joseph Kavaler, Frieda Lande and Grete Lohr - also managed to emigrate to the USA in time.
Bruno Kavaler became a U.S.-citizen on January 17
th, 1944, married Elizabeth Gerson (1922-2017) on June 5
th, 1951 in Alameda, CA/USA and they had three children and lived and worked in Berkeley, California.
Bruno Kavaler, nee Kawaler, died on January 29
th, 2012 in Berkeley, CA/USA and is buried at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, Contra Costa, CA/USA.
