Josef KATZ, born on May 4
th, 1910 in Gliniany, Galicia/Austro-Hungarian Empire [later Poland, today: Hlynjany/Ukraine] (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Paul Katz (bank official), lived in Vienna's 1
st district, Wipplingerstrasse 12.
Josef Katz was enrolled finally in spring term 1937 in the 5
th and last year of his studies ("Absolutorium" was certified on November 3
rd, 1938) and was preparing for the final examinations ("Rigorosen") in 1938.
In 1938 he was forced to quit his studies and to leave the University of Vienna for racist reason after the takeover of power of National-Socialism. But after numerous incertainties he could finally finish his studies and graduated on October 31
st, 1938, but only with the discriminating ceremony of a "Nichtarierpromotion", which included at the same time that he was banned from his profession.
He had to flee from National-Socialist Austria and succeeded in February 1939 to emigrate illegally to Palestine [Israel], where he could later practice as a specialist in urology.
He died at the age of 47 on January 21
st, 1957 in Jerusalem/Israel.
