Irene KATZNER (married: BUTTERFASS), born on March 20
th, 1917 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Ing. Leopold Katzner (Engineer), lived in Vienna's 5
th district, Schoenbrunner Strasse 141/12a, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 3
rd year of her studies and took courses in Psychology and Art History.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he she was forced to quit his her studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna (Leaving Certificate ('Abgangszeugnis') was issued on May 2
nd, 1938).
She had to flee Vienna and could emigrate to the USA and lived in New York and later worked for the Yellow Pages. She was never again able to continue her studies.
In 2006 she told about her expulsion in 1938:
"It was the most dramatic thing for anybody. You are totally thrown out of your entire environment. And some people didn't make it mentally and some people did make it. I don't know. I made it, T think pretty good, but maybe certain things stayed with me, that are not always great, like I'm always anxious, you know, I'm not afraid for myself, I'm afraid for my children, and maybe that stayed with me."
