Kurt HERZOG, born on June 19th, 1912 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Leo Herzog (born 1884 in Vienna, clerk “Speditionsbeamter”), lived in Vienna's 20th district, Klosterneuburger Straße 6/11. After his graduation from High School ("Matura" in Vienna's 2nd district in 1931) he started to study Engineering ("Bauingenieurwesen") at the Technical University of Vienna (immatriculation on October 14, 1931 for a year but quit this studies on April 4th, 1932 without examination and switched to Medicine in 1932 and was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School of the University of Vienna in the 5th year of his studies.
1938 he was forced to leave the University (Leaving Certificate ('Abgangszeugnis') was issued on May 9th, 1938, fall term 1937/38 was validated on February 4th, 1938) and had to quit his nearly finished studies without graduation.
His father Leo tried to emigrate to “abroad” – he filled in a form of the “Fürsorge-Zentrale der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde – Auswanderungsabteilung” on July 12, 1938 to be able to leave the country, together with his wife Annie (born 1888 in New York) and their son Kurt. From 1900 to 1938 Leo Herzog had worked for the Schenker Co. in Vienna (conveyance and transportation company) but was fired on April 15, 1938 and got his severance pay on June 10, 1938. Kurt Herzog succeeded to leave Vienna and could emigrate to Palestine [Israel] and managed to continue with his studies and graduated in Beirut, Lebanon. His father emigrated to Luxemburg (Brussels), but was deported from Drancy [France] on August 28, 1942 to Auschwitz-Birkenau [Poland] and murdered. Kurts mother, born in the USA (later: Ana Hertzog) could emigrate to the USA, but later moved to her son to Israel..
