Paula HERSCHMAN (married: ROLL), born on December 16th, 1915 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), , born on December 16, 1915 in Vienna (entitled to live in Vienna, citizenship 1938: Austria), daughter of Arthur Herschman (1880-1935, merchant) and Friederike Pauline Herschman, née Taussig (1884-?) and lived in Vienna's 2nd district, Haidgasse 10/8. She had attended grammar school in Vienna and passed her school-leaving examination (Matura) on July 2nd, 1934, and subsequently began to study medicine in Vienna, and was last enrolled in the 3rd year at the Medical School in the fall term of 1937/38.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism she was forced to quit her studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna (Leaving Certificate ("Abgangszeugnis") was issued on June 27th, 1938).
She had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to Great Britain in time with the help of a domestic permit. She initially lived and worked as a housemaid at Heath Cottage, Brentmoor Road, West End, Woking, Greater London and was not interned as an enemy alien after the start of the war. She married Viktor Roll (1910-1963), an emigrated Austrian, in London on January 16th, 1943 and they had two daughters (Johanna Bauer and Ms. Altenberg).
After the end of the war, Paula Roll returned to Austria with her family from forced emigration in England, caught up on the last terms of her studies and received her doctorate in medicine from the University of Vienna on November 14th, 1950.
She lived and worked as a physician in Vienna at various addresses, around 1950 in Vienna 2, Rueppgasse 9 (at that time she was still working as a guest physician in the hospital Klosterneuburg/Lower Austria), around 1955 in Vienna 18, Währinger Gürtel 9, around 1965 in Vienna 2, Taborstraße 108, later in Vienna 20, Mertaraplatz 1, Vienna 18, Gersthofer Straße 162 and finally in Vienna 4, Wiedner Hauptstraße 45-47/30.
She retired in 1979.
Dr. Paula Roll, née Herschman, died on December 2nd, 2010 in Vienna.
