Leonore GORGIAS, born on April 16^th, 1914 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Dr. Leopold Gorgias (dentist), lived in Vienna 9^th district, Bindergasse 8, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Philosophical School in the 4^th and final year of her studies and took courses in pharmaceutics and chemistry. In 1938 she was forced to quit her studies - for a few months she could officially continue her studies in the context of the Numerus clausus of Jewish Students until June) - and to leave the University of Vienna for racist reason after the takover of power of National-Socialism. Her younger brother Wilhelm Gorgias, who studied at the Medical School, was also expelled from the University of Vienna. Leonore Gorgias could flee Vienna to Great Britain where she could finally get her visa to the USA on July 19^th, 1940 in London and she travelled with the SS Samaria on August 10^th, 1940 from Liverpool to the USA where she arrived on August 20^th, in New York. She could in a way "continue" with her academic studies, meaning after four years and nearly finished pharmaceutical studies at the University of Vienna, she had to go on for another four years at the Virginia College of Medicine, Richmond, Virginia before she could graduate and could become a pharmacist.
