Franz FREUND, born on March 4
th, 1914 in Ebreichsdorf/Lower Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Dr. Eugen Freund (senior law official), lived in Vienna 13
th district, Trauttmansdorffgasse 38, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1938/39 at the Medical School in the 3
rd year of his studies. He was discriminated as a so called "Mischling 1. Grades" and he could continue his studies at first - valid until revoked.
With a special permit of the Reichserziehungsministerium Berlin from June 19
th, 1940 he was allowed to take the 2
nd and 3
rd final exam ("Rigorosum"), with the explicit limitation that he would nevertheless not be allowed to practice as a physician in the territories of the Third Reich. On March 21
st, 1941 he finished the 3
rd Rigorosum and asked for permission to graduate to get the academic degree "Dr.med.univ." (M.D.). On July 17
th, 1941 he was allowed to graduate. On October 20
th, 1942 the Medical Dean only handed him in a certificate that proves, that he fullfilled all qualifications except for "aryan blood" and that states in the end, that this is not a doctoral diploma. He asked the "Reichsinnenministerium Berlin" for permision to work as a physician on March 16
th, 1943 which was denied till the end of National Socialism. After the war on August 1st, 1945 a doctoral diploma was certificated – dated back to March 21
st, 1941 – and was handed in to Franz Freund.
Franz Freund became a physician in St. Kanzian at Klopeinersee in Carinthia, Austria.
He died there in 1974.
