Eleonora FRIED, born on March 14th, 1916 in Vienna (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Erwin Fried (retired senior official 'Regierungsrat' in the police department), lived in Wien 6, Gumpendorfer Strasse 12, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Philosophical School in the 2nd year of her studies and took courses in philosophy, psychology, German and English language and cultural studies and art history (already her mother has graduated at the Philosophical School).
Before she started her studies at the University she had allready taken the social welfare couses ("Fürsorgerinnenausbildung") at the social school for women ("Sozialen Frauenschule") of the Caritas and started her work as a social welfare worker in the field of tuberculosis aid on February 1st, 1938 at the Municipality of Vienna and continued her studies part-time (permission of her new employer) and enrolled on February 20th, 1938 for the spring term. After the "Anschluss" she was forced to quit her studies at the University of Vienna – allthough she, her parents and grandparents were roman-catholic – due to "racist" reasons, and also lost her position in the Municipality of Vienna on March 30th, 1938. She was able to emigrate to England in the end of 1938 and after 1940 further on to the USA.
In 1966, living in the USA, she asked successfully for recompensation because of her dismissal due to "racist reasons"
