Herbert FRANK, born on August 1st, 1919 in Krems an der Donau/Lower Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Krems an der Donau/Lower Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), son of Michael Frank (senior official "Amtsrat" in the tax authority in Krems, 1883–?) and Marie Frank, née Karch (1883–1962), lived in Vienna's 17th district, Kalvarienberggasse 19 an later with the family in Krems, Wiener Strasse 18, was enrolled in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 2nd year of his studies.
He was roman-catholic, but due to a jewish paternal grandmother he was considered to be a so called "Mischling 2. Grades" according to NS-race laws and he could continue his studies at first - only valid until revoked. He was able to successfully pass the first viva voce on December 13th, 1939, and his application for further admission to studies was approved by the Reich Ministry of Education in Berlin in 1940.
On March 30th, 1944, he was able to obtain his doctorate in an individual examination still in accordance with the old Austrian examination regulations and with distinction, and was subsequently drafted into the Wehrmacht.
As a medical corporal he died in the Second World War on November 13th, 1944 near Hunsel, Limburg/The Netherlands by a shell hit.
