Hella Golda ELLENDMANN recte POMPAN, born on April 18th, 1914 in Buczacz, Galicia/Austro-Hungarian Empire [later Poland, today: Butschatsch|Бучач/Ukraine] (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), daughter of Jakob Ellendmann recte Pompan (1884-?, salesman) ad Regina, née Turteltaub (1891-?), lived in Vienna's 2nd district, Novaragasse 38a/7, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Medical School in the 5th and last year of her studies ("Absolutorium" was certified on November 3rd, 1938).
In 1938 she was forced to quit her studies and to leave the University of Vienna for racist reason after the takeover of power of National-Socialism. But after numerous incertainties she could finally finish her studies and graduated on October 31st, 1938, but only with the discriminating ceremony of a "Nichtarierpromotion", which included at the same time that she was banned from her profession.
She had to flee Vienna and her father applied unsuccessfully to the Jewish Community Vienna in May 1938 for support for her and her brothers (Adolf, born 1918 Vienna, bookshop assistant and Oskar, born 1919 Vienna, dental technician) to emigrate to Palestine. However, she managed to emigrate to Great Britain, where she married Dr. Maximilian Jäckel (1912-1999), also from Vienna, in London on February 27th, 1940.
Both then emigrated via Quebec/Canada to the USA where they arrived in Rouses Point, NY on June 12th, 1940 and then lived in Bronx, New York, NY in 1941. Golda Jackel later lived in Fort Lauderdale, Broward, Florida, USA.
Dr. Hella Golda Jackel, née Ellendmann recte Pompan, died on April 15th 2003 in the USA.
