Herbert Heinrich EISENSTEIN (later EDWARDS), born on October 27th, 1918 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Dr. Ignaz Eisenstein (lawyer, 1882-1956) and Charlotte "Lea" Eisenstein, née Huebl (1892-1954), lived in Vienna's 3rd district, Dapontegasse 1,graduated from hogh school (Bundesgymnasium Wien XIX) in 1936 and started to study lw in fall term 1937/38. He was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Law School in the 1st year of his studies. In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna. Herbert Eisenstein and his entire family had to flee Austria, his father was forced to quit his law office in Vienna's 1st district, Petersplatz 4, for racist reasons (he had been practicing law in Vienna since 1917). Herbert Eisenstein together with his younger brother Ladislaus (1915-19__) succeeded in emigrating from London to Australia on August 13th, 1938 with the SS Ormonde, where they arrived in Fremantle on September 13th, 1938 and settled in Melbourne, where his parents and his older brother Paul (1923-2004) also followed.
There they anglicized the names to Herbert Edwards (Herbert Eisenstein), brother Walter Edwards (Ladislaus Eisenstein), brother Paul Edwards (Paul Eisenstein), father John Edwards (Ignatz Eisenstein) and mother Lotte Eisenstein (Charlotte Edwards).
Initially, the family lived at 17 Elisabeth str., Melbourne. After the death of his mother (1954) and father (1956), Herbert Edwards moved to Melbounre district Hawthorne East, Victoria/Australia, his brother to nearby district Hawksburn. His younger brother, the later U.S. philosopher and encyclopedist Prof. Dr. Paul Edwards (1923-2004), emigrated from Australia to the U.S. in 1947 and taught in New York at Columbia University, "Brooklyn College," and the New School for Social Research.

Restitution and compensation proceedings, which Herbert Edwards initiated in Vienna in 1962 for the expropriation of his parents' property and two real estates, his parent's "aryanized" apartment and his father's law office, were settled in 1964 with a one-time small compensation.

So far nothing is known about the further life of Herbert Edwards.
He died in September 1979 in Cambrian Hill, Victoria/Australia.
