The family moved to Vienna in 1912 and lived in Vienna's 8th district, Pfeilgasse 28/21. Oskar Brauer graduated from the Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt der chemischen Industrie and then began to study chemistry and physics at the University of Vienna. After the Anschluss in March 1938, he was forced to discontinue his studies for racist reasons - after his application to continue studying for at least another three months under the 2%-numerus clausus for Jewish students was also rejected. He had to leave the University of Vienna immediately.
He had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate in time on November 25th, 1939 via Le Havre/France on the SS President Roosevelt to the USA, where he arrived in New York, NY, on December 5th, 1938. He lived in Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts from 1940, became an American citizen in 1944 under the name Oscar Carry Brauner and worked in the USA as a chemist.
Oscar C. Brauner died in 1968 in Boston/USA and was buried at the American Friendship Cemetery in West Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
