Renée ZINDWER, born on April 11th, 1913 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Nathan Zindwer (salesman) and Charlotte (nee Muenzer, 1889-1940), lived in Vienna 9th district, Dietrichsteingasse 9/10, studied at the Medical School of the University of ViennaShe wasn't enrolled at the Medical School any more in 1938, but was preparing for the final exams ('Rigorosen'). She could finally finish her studies and graduated on July 21st, 1938, but only with the discriminating ceremony of a 'Nichtarierpromotion', which included at the same time that she was banned from her profession.
She left Vienna in August 1939 and was able to emigrate to the USA and became assistent at the New England Hospital for Women and Children in Boston (1939-1941) and at Women’s Hospital in Philadelphia.
1941-1944 physician at different hospitals. 1944–1946 private praxis in Boston. 1949-1951 deputy director of the School for medical services in Nashville. 1951-1964 head of the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, New Jersey State Department of Health. 1964-1967 medical chairman of the board of administration. 1967 deputy director of the Maternal and Child Health at the New York State Department of Health.
In 1952 she published the book 'Of Little Patients" (Richmond, John Knox Press) with her own scetches and descriptions of some children she cared for medically.
Renee Zindwer died on June 1st, 1993 in Delmar/New York.
