Leo Ziprkowski

Leo ZIPRKOWSKI, born on March 27th, 1909 in Grajewo/Russia (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Tel-Aviv/Palestine [Israel], Citizenship: stateless 'staatenlos'), was the son of Jakob Ziprkowski (merchant). He studied medicine at the University of Berlin in fall term 1932/33 (matriculation no. 0214-123) and moved to the University of Vienna after the National Socialists seized power in Germany. He lived in Vienna 9th district, Wasagasse 20/12, was enrolled finally in fall term 1937/38 at the Medical School in the 4th year of his studies (Leaving Certificate ('Abgangszeugnis') was issued on April 19th, 1938, fall term 1937/38 was validated on February 1st, 1938).

After the "Anschluss" 1938 Ziprkowski was able to emigrate to Switzerland, where he succeeded to finish his medical studies at the University of Basel in 1939.
He later emigrated to Palestine and became head of the dermatological department at Tel Hashomer Govt. Hospital Israel. From 1963 on he was also clinical senior lecturer in dermatology at the Hebrew University Jerusalem.

Leo Ziprkowski died at the beginning of 1969.

In September 2008 the "MSR Ziprkowski Auditorium" at Sheba Medical Center of Tel Hashomer Hospital was named after Prof. Leo Ziprkowski as former head of the dermatological department, and his wife Ilse.
