Markus WASSER, born on May 26
th (20
th), 1912 in Radziechów, Galicia/Austro-Hungarian Empire [later Poland, today Ukraine] (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Jakob Lakriz false Wasser (civil servant, b. January 8
th 1887 in Lapotyn) and Chaje Wasser, née Ecker (b. February 1
st, 1890 in Radziechów, Galicia), lived in Vienna's 3
rd district, Obere Weissgaerberstrasse 18 since 1932, was enrolled finally in fall term 1937/38 at the Medical School in the 5
th and last year of his studies ('Absolutorium' was certified on December 17
th, 1938).
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his medical studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna withou a chance to graduate.
He married in January 1939 in Vienna-Leopoldstadt Stella Preminger (b. 1919 in Vienna) with a shortened procedure as presenting the ships passage to emigrate to the USA only a few days later. But plans had to be changes and they emigrated via Belgium, France and Switzerland (end of 1942) to Palestine [Israel] (his father died in New York).
He could finish his medical studies later, graduated and became a physician. He returned to Vienna, lived in Vienna's 7
th district, Zieglergasse 54/6, and became a medical practitioner in Vienna.
He died on September 13
th, 1979 in Vienna and is burried at Vienna's central cemetery ("Zentralfriedhof").
