Hans TROLL, born on April 20th, 1919 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Dr. Stephan von Troll (lawyer) and Anna Troll (nee Thune), lived in Vienna's 13th district, Auhofstraße 11b. He gained his secondary school leaving certificate ("Maturazeugnis/Reifepruefungszeugnis") from Bundesgymnasium in Viennas 13th district in summer 1937 and was enrolled at the Law School of Vienna University in fall 1937. Spring term 1938 was his last term, before he was forced to leave the university in the 1st year of his studies.
His father Stephan von Troll (born 1892) - he earned his doctor of legal law at the University of Vienna in 1919 and was registered as a lawyer in 1927 (office Vienna's 1
st district, Lobkowitzplatz 1) – was abandoned from the list of lawyers in 1938 for racist reason. The family tried to emigrate to the USA in June 1938 – Hans Troll, his younger brother Walter (born 1922) and his parents. In the questionnaire of the emigration department of the Jewish Community of Vienna his father mentions, when asked for the plans in the USA, that they could give language and music lessons ("son trained in music") or open up a dry cleaning shop ("sons both trained in chemistry"). They could also names two relatives, already living in the USA, a cousin of his father in Chicago (Dr. Otto Saphir) and an aunt of his mother in Philadelphia/Pennsylvania (Rose Weiss). So they succeeded to get out of the Third Reich and could emigrate to the USA on September 29, 1938.
They lived in New York City, his father became a public accountant, and Hans Troll could start to study musicology and earned a degree at Harvard University. Later he became an inventor, living in the Boston area and later in Connecticut. He had three children - Catherine, Jeannie and Gregory.
He died at the age of 57 in 1976.
