Ernst STAHR, born on October 14th, 1915 in Vienna/Austro-Hungarian Empire (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), son of Wilhelm Ignaz Stahr (goldsmith, jeweler) and Selma Stahr, née Knöpfelmacher (1887-1922), lived in Vienna's 6th district, Mollardgasse 75/9. After he had graduated from high school ("Realgymnasium") in Vienna's 14th district, he began studying at the Medical School of the University of Vienna in the fall term 1933/34. He was last enrolled in fall term 1937/38 in the 5th and last year of his studies
After the Nazi Anschluss, he was forced to abandon his studies for racist reasons and leave the University of Vienna (leaving certificate ("Abgangszeugnis") was issued on November 22nd, 1938).
He had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate in time, whereas his parents, who died in Vienna during the Nazi era, were unable to do so. He was able to emigrate to the Philippines, where he met his future wife, a displaced German. After their marriage in 1948, they emigrated together to Sydney/Australia in 1949, where he had relatives. His medical studies were not recognized and he began a new course of study - accounting - and then worked as a goldsmith and accountant, his wife as a language teacher. They had three children.
Ernst Stahr died on June 4th, 1989 in East Bentleigh, VIC/Australia.
