Anna STANGL (married: JENNY), born on July 7th, 1918 in Poechlarn/Lower Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Poechlarn/Lower Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), daughter of Dr. Emil Stangl (1876-1934, physician in Poechlarn) and Konstanzia Stangl, née Schmitt (1881-1960s) lived with her mother in Vienna's 9th district, Berggasse 4/11. She had attended the Realgymnasium at the Bundeserziehungsanstalt für Maedchen (Vienna's 3rd district, Boerhavegasse 15) and passed her school-leaving examination (Matura) there in 1936. She then gaind the license for teaching in elementary schools at the Teacher Training College in Voecklabruck/Lower Austria in 1937 and began to study medicine at the University of Vienna in the fall term of 1937/38 - she was enrolled in the 1st year at the Medical School in the spring term of 1938.
After the Anschluss in 1938, although she herself was Roman Catholic and her father, who had died in 1934, had left the Jewish religious community long before she was born in 1900 (before he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Vienna sub auspiciis imperatoris) and had been baptized Roman Catholic, after the Anschluss in 1938 she was nevertheless considered a so-called "Mischling 1. Grades" for racist reasons and as such could only continue her studies in a restricted and provisional manner - with revocation at any time. She passed the viva voce examination parts in physics on June 9th, 1938, and in chemistry on July 12th, 1938, in quick succession, and then in October to December 1939 those in anatomy, histology and physiology, all with distinction.
When "Mischlinge" were required to apply to the Reich Ministry of Education (REM) Berlin for admission before the were allowed continuing their studying beginning in the 1st trimester of 1940, Anna Stangl submitted an application to continue her studies on April 31st, 1940.
In accordance with the regulations, the dean of the responsible medical faculty, Prof. Eduard Pernkopf, attached to the application an expert opinion dated April 26th, 1940, which "had to deal in particular with the personal impression of the applicant's personality and appearance. It is to be mentioned whether and to what extent characteristics of the Jewish race are outwardly recognizable in the applicant." [Decree of the Ministry of Education (REM), January 5th, 1940] in which he stated: "Stangl Anna has been summoned today. On the outside she makes an Aryan impression. She is also modest in her nature and appearance, and shows nothing Jewish."
The REM announced the decision on June 19th, 1940, that after consultation with the Reich Ministry of the Interior, it was decided to admit Stangl "exceptionally" to the medical examination according to the old Austrian study regulations, since she had already passed the preliminary examination (1st viva voce) in December 1939. However, it was expressly pointed out to her that as a "Mischling I Grades" she had no chance of obtaining a license to practice medicine in the German Reich.
After passing the 2nd and 3rd viva voce examinations, Anna Stangl would have been entitled to receive her doctorate on September 8th, 1942, according to the old study regulations. However, her application for admission to the doctorate "Dr.med.univ." was rejected by the REM: without proof of certification as a physician (which was generally not granted to "Mischlinge 1. Grades") she was not allowed to get a doctorate.
It was not until after the end of National Socialism that she was awarded her "Dr.med. univ." from the University of Vienna in the first post-war graduation ceremony on June 8th, 1945 - retroactive to September 8th, 1942 - in accordance with the old and now reintroduced Austrian study regulations.
She later lived and worked as a physician (radiologist) in Vienna's 19th district and was married to Dr.med. Helmut Jenny (1916-2010) since June 1954.
She completed her specialist training in radiology and was licensed as a specialist in radiology by the Vienna Medical Association on December 10th, 1951. She lived and worked as a physician (radiologist) in Vienna's 19th district, was head of the X-ray institute of the II Surgical University Clinic for 17 years, where she also met her future husband, Dr. Helmut Jenny (1916-2010, later University Professor of Surgery), whom she married in Heiligenkreuz in June 1954 and they had a daughter together.
Dr. Anna Jenny, née Stangl, died on May 20th, 1993 in Vienna (Waehring) and is buried at Neustift Cemetery in Vienna's 18th district.
