Franz SPITZER (LUSTIG), born on January 21
st, 1914 in Eisenstadt [Kismarton], Hungary/Austro-Hungarian Empire [Burgenland/Österreich] (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') in 1938 for Eisenstadt, Citizenship: Austria), son of Moritz Michael Zvi Spitzer (1873-1932) and Hedwig Bela Spitzer, née Lustig (1887-1933) and lived in Unterberg-Eisenstadt, but during lecturing season in Vienna's 9
th district, Liechtensteinstrasse 23/8 (subtenancy at Ms. Pollnauer), was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 5
th and last year of his studies.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna (Leaving Certificate ("Abgangszeugnis") was issued on June 22
nd, 1938).
He had to flee Vienna and managed to leave the country in August 1938 and emigrate to South America where he lived in Santiago de Chile from September 1939. He was married to Susanne, née Mayer Klein, and they had two children, son Andres Spitzer and daughter Eva Spitzer.
Dr. Francisco Spitzer L.[ustig] had succeeded in graduating and obtaining a medical doctoral degree and he operated a practice of internal medicine in Santiago, Moneda 973 and lived at Miraflores 249/IV/B, 4220 Casilla, Santiago de Chile in the mid-1950s. He was also the medical officer of the Austrian Embassy in Chile.
In August 1956, he submitted an application for compensation to the Assistance Fund for Political Persecutees in Vienna, but no positive decision was reached until 1961.
