Milton SIMON, born on May 25th, 1909 in Érmihályfalva, Hungary/Austro-Hungarian Empire [Valea lui Mihai/Romania] (in other documents: Nagy Somkút/Hungary [Șomcuta Mare/Romania]) (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for New York/USA, citizenship 1938: USA), son of Joseph Feivel Phillip Simon, né Dzincharsky (1879-1958, merchant) and Eszter Simon, née Roth (1979-1929), lived in Vienna's 15th district, Stutterheimstrasse 8, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Medical School in the 5th and last year of his studies ("Absolutorium" was certified on November 3rd, 1938).

The family came from the Hungarian part of the Habsburg Monarchy, which had been annexed to Romania after the end of the First World War, and had emigrated to the USA with their four children in 1921. They lived in New York and became U.S. citizens in 1929, and Milton Simon had come to Vienna to study medicine

After the "Anschluss" in 1938, he was forced to abandon his studies and leave the University of Vienna for racist reasons, but after a long period of uncertainty, he was still able to graduate on October 31st, 1938, but only under numerous symbolic discriminations in the context of a "Nichtarierpromotion" ("non-Aryan graduation"), while at the same time being banned from practicing medicine in the entire German Reich.

He went back to the USA, fought in World War II in the U. S. Army (Captain) in the medical corps of the Fifth Armored Division and was awarded the "bronze star".

He lived and worked as a physician in California, was married to Mary Simon, née Oltzik (1918-2002) and they had two children, Estelle D. Simon (Doyle) (1949-?) and Joseph Mitchell Simon (1952-2014).

Dr. Milton Simon died on April 1, 2002 in San Diego, CA/USA.
