Rahel SCHAPIRA, born on January 14th, 1920 in Masice/Yugoslavia (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Buczacz/Poland [Buchach/Ukraine], Citizenship: Poland), daughter of Chaim Schapira (rabbi), lived in Wien 7, Dreihufeisengasse 13/8, since 1937 in Wien 7, Mariahilfer Straße 10/2/8. She was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 1st year of her studies and took courses in Art History and English language and literature Studies.
On March 17th, 1938, only a few days after the "Anschluss", she left Vienna, on her residence registration form Przmysl/Polen is noted as destination.
The exhibition "Ausgegrenzt, Vertrieben, Ermordet" (January 22nd - May 14th, 2010) at the Department of History of Art of the University of Vienna is dedicated to the memory of Rachel Schapira and 20 other former students of the University of Vienna focused on art history.
