Ewald ROSENTHAL (later: Hugh RANK), born on June 17th, 1913 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Budapest/Hungary, Citizenship: Hungary), son of Rosenthal (bank official, deceased), lived with his guardian Leopold Eisenberger in Wien 9,
Servitengasse 22, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 4th year of his studies and took courses in Philosophy, Psychology and German language and literature Studies. He still registered for the final exams on May 27th, 1938 but was no more allowed to pass them. The examination procedure was interrupted and he could not finish his studies.
He could flee to Great Britannia in 1939 but was interned there as "enemy alien" and was deported to Australia with the ship HMT "Dunera". After his release he returned to England and became a teacher and Literature Historian.
