Her elder sister Cecilie Bergsmann, née Rosenzweig (1916-2019), who studied at the Medical School, was also expelled from the University of Vienna.

Ella Rosenzweig had to flee Vienna and attempted to emigrate to England, the USA or Palestine by applying for support from the emigration department of the Jewish Community Vienna at the end of May 1938. In order to increase her chances of emigration, she had begun to take courses in cosmetology and dressmaking in addition to her studies in law. She managed to leave Austria for Great Britain in 1938, lived in London, England, and was able to emigrate to the USA via Southampton, England on the SS Ile de France in August 1939, arriving in New York City, NY on August 22nd, 1939.
Her sister Cecilie Rosenzweig had emigrated first to England and soon after to the U.S., arriving in New York in early August 1939; her parents and sister Josefine Rosenzweig, married Jacob (1923-1988) had left first for Paris/France and later emigrated to the U.S., arriving in New York City four days after her sister, and the family lived together at 621 W. 179th street.

Ella Rosenzweig was unable to continue her law studies under the conditions of emigration and in the 1940 and 1950 censuses gave as her job title: Saleswoman for corsetry.
On February 21st, 1941, she married the Viennese lawyer Dr.iur. Robert Reitler (1905-1998), who had emigrated from Austria to New York via Le Havre/France only one year earlier, and they lived in Manhattan, 610 West 143rd street, New York, NY. They had one daughter, Anni Loewy and one other child.
On January 8th, 1945, Ella Reitler became a U.S. citizen.
They had moved several times, later living at 26 Van Winkle Street, Bloomfield, NJ and most recently at 5901 Montrose Road, Apt. C201, Rockville, MD/USA.

Her husband Robert could no longer practice law in the U.S., became a stationery merchant in the 1950s and 1960s, and by the late 1970s was
barely active as a businessman. He died on February 11th, 1998, in Rockville, Montgomery, MD.
