Franz RIX (later Zvi RIX), born on April 18
th, 1909 in Vienna/Austro-Hungarian Empire as the son of Theodor Rix (rope factory owner, 1871-1952) and Marie (Mitzi, Miriam) Rix, née Hirsch (1882-1969), had studied medicine at the University of Vienna, passed the final viva voce examination on July 18th, 1933, and received his "Dr.med.univ." (M.D.) on July 21
st, 1933. doctorate. From 1933 to 1938 he was employed at the Mariahilfer Ambulatorium (Sandwirtgasse 3-5), as well as an unpaid assistant physician at the ENT (otolaryngological) univ.-clinic (head: Prof. Neumann) at the Medical School of the University of Vienna and practiced in Vienna's 7
th district, Stiftergasse 27.
In times of National Socialism he was persecuted as a Jew for racist reasons and expelled from the University of Vienna, his scholarship was revoked and his position as assistant physician was terminated as of April 1938.
He had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to Palestine [Israel] on June 3
rd, 1938. He lived in Jerusalem until the 1960s - he changed his name to Zvi Rix -, lived in Braunschweig/Western Germany in 1977, and again in Rechobot/Israel from 1980.
He was married to Mellitta Gutwirth (1912-1998) and they had a son and a daughter.
Zvi Rix, née Franz Rix, died in Israel on January 10
th, 1981 at the age of 71.
