Robert Stefan REICH, later: Roberto René REY RÍOS (born on June 23
rd, 1896 in Weidlingau, Lower Austria), had graduated at the Law School at the University of Vienna on October 6
th, 1919 with the academic degree 'Dr. iur.'.
In times of Nazism he was deprived of his academic degree on July 17
th, 1942 with the racist argument, that he as a Jew was not considered dignified an academic degree of a German university ('eines akademischen Grades einer deutschen Hochschule unwuerdig').
He had been on Vienna's list of lawyers since October 27
th, 1925, and had his law firm in Vienna's 1st district, Falkestrasse 1, and was involved in several political processes in the 1920s and 1930s. He lived in Vienna's 2nd district, Gredlerstrasse 1.
He fled to Paris in January 1938, but was later expelled from France, emigrated to Bolivia, where he stayed for four years, obtained Peruvian citizenship in 1948, and lived in Argentina since 1951. In the 1950s, he became a professor at the Law Faculty of the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Santa Fe, Argentina and wrote some book, e.g.
Tratado de Montevideo 1889-1939 (1949) or
Goethe and the Roman Law (
Goethe y el derecho romano, Buenos Aires:Abeledo Perrot 1960).
It took 13 years since the deprivation - and a very long time since the end of Nazism - until the regranting of the doctorate took finally place on May 15
th, 1955.
Roberto René REY RÍOS, née Robert Stefan REICH, died after 1966, the axact date is not yet known.
