In September 1938, Kurt Rabinowitz, his brother Alfred and their family were able to flee Vienna via Zagreb/Yugoslavia to Palestine [Israel] where the family settled in Jerusalem. While the father of the family, the lawyer Dr. Lazar (Leo) Rabinowitz – his office in Vienna's 1st district, Renngasse 14 has been closed down after the "Anschluss" - was preparing himself for the exams to be allowed to work as a lawyer and solicitor/notary in Israel, his two sons had to support the family. In 1940 Kurts brother Alfred Rabinowitz enrolled into the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he devoted himself to the study of classical philology, studying Greek and Latin in the Philology Department as well as the Ancient History of the Holy Land but was killed at the age of 29 in the Independence war on Mount Zion. Kurt Rabinowitz first enrolled in a science degree in Jerusalem and only at the age of 40 commenced his studies of medicine. He completed his studies, qualified and in addition to extensive research work served as physician at the Knesset.
He married Dr. Sonya Bergner, who was originally from the south of Poland. The couple had two sons: Dr. Danny Rabinowitz and Dr. Ronny Rabinowitz.
