Wilhelmine Popper (Goodenough)

Wilhelmine POPPER (later married GOODENOUGH), born on September 25th, 1914 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Josef Popper and Irmgard Popper, née Pineles, lived in Vienna's 19th district, Chimanistraße 23/6, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 5th and last year of her studies and took courses in Pharmaceutics and Chemistry ('Absolutorium' was certified on July 19th, 1938). In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he she was forced to quit his her studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna. She had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to England/Great Britain, but was unable to complete her almost finished studies. Instead, she worked as a housemaid at Warden's Lodgings at Wadham College in Oxford. She married automotive engineer Herbert Goodenough B.S. (b. June 8, 1902, d. May 5, 1990 in Castleford West Yorkshire) on June 19, 1943 in Oxford, England. Her mother Irmgard Popper, née Pineles (1879-1937) had already died in Vienna before the Nazi takeover, her father Josef Popper (1872-1942) died in Vienna during the Nazi era, and her brother Paul Popper (b. 1916 in Vienna, d. 1999 in England) was also able to emigrate to Great Britain in time. Wilhelmine and her husband lived at 39 Close Road, Castleford, Yorkshire/England, and had four children, including George Goodenough and Helen Roe. Wilhelmine Goodenough, née Popper, died on March 10th, 1993 in Castleford, Yorkshire/England.
