Franz Josef PARNES, born on January 5th, 1908 in Leipzig/Germany (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Wilhelm Parnes (salesman), lived in Vienna 16th district, Wichtelgasse 27/9 and studied at the Medical School of the University of Vienna from 1932 to 1938.
Franz Parnes wasn't enrolled any more in 1938, but was preparing for the final examinations ('Rigorosen'). He could finally finish his studies and graduated on July 21st, 1938, but only with the discriminating ceremony of a 'Nichtarierpromotion', which included at the same time that he was banned from his profession.
Franz Josef Parnes was deported to the SS-camp "Kaserne Mechelen" in Belgium in 1942/43, from where the belgian transports to the NS-determination camps in Eastern Europe were organized. He and Jansje van Santen from the Netherlands, who later became his wife, both survived the camps and National Socialism. In 1945 they emigrated to the USA, where his wife died in 1962.
He became a physician in New York.
Franz Josef Parnes died in 1995.
