Philipp BICK, born on January 25th, 1904 in Rohatetz/Czechoslovakia (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Leopold Bick (railway official, deceased). He lived in Vienna 2nd district, Rueppgasse 37/11, and married the newly graduated psycologist Esther Wander (1901-1983) in 1936. He was enrolled finally in fall term 1937/38 at the Medical School in the 5th year of his studies (Leaving Certificate ('Abgangszeugnis') was issued on July 18th, 1938, fall term 1937/38 was validated on February 17th, 1938). After the "Anschluss" 1938 Philipp Bick emigrated to Switzerland together with his wife. Since she was not allowed to work here, she emigrated - without her husband - to England and became a child psychotherapist. Philipp Bick was finally able to complete his medical studies at the University of Bern with the doctoral thesis ('Dissertation') "Metastasen eines Magencarcinoms im Opticus und Ciliarkörper" and was graduated Dr.med. in 1947.
He lived and worked as a psychiatrist and physician in Bern. In 1964 he made an application to the Commission for advance payments to Swiss victims of Nazi persecution ("Kommission für Vorauszahlungen an schweizerische Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Verfolgung"). A book with the note "Philipp Bick, April 1923", which was found during provenance research in the Austrian National Library, is checked by the Art Restitution Advisory Board.
