Nelly Pressburger (Brasch [Brash], Mandl)

Nelly PRESSBURGER, born on June 25th, 1913 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Pressburg/Czechoslovakia [Bratislava/Slovakia], Citizenship: Czechoslovakia), daughter of Arnold Pressburger (merchant, film producer in London, 1885-1951) and Stefanie Pressburger (née Hanak), lived in Vienna's 7th district, Neubaugasse 36. She graduated from highschool om March 5th, 1932 ("Realgymnasium der Fuerstin Bismarck Schule") in Berlin-Charlottenburg/Germany and a year later she enrolled at the University of Vienna in Austria spring term 1933. She was finally enrolled in fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 6th year of her studies and took courses in History, Art History and Philosophy. She registered for the final exams ("Rigorosen") on February 8th, 1938 and passed the first Rigorosum ("Philosophicum") on February 26th, 1938 with distinction. After the "Anschluss" she was no more allowed to submit her doctoral theses nor to take the second Rigorosum exam. She had to quit her studies for racist reason and had to leave the University of Vienna. She had to flee Austria and was able to emigrate to England, where her father lived and worked and where she married Heinz Brasch (born 1903 in Berlin, later: Henry Brash, film producer and distributor) on September 30th, 1938 in Paddington, London. Nelly Brasch (Brash) later lived in Hallifax, Canada and moved to the USA with her father and husband in April 1941 where they lived in Hollywood and Los Angeles. Their son Peter Anthony Brash was born in New York on May 30th, 1944. She became a US citizen in 1946. On December 1953 she married Fred Mandl (b. 1907) in Los Angeles. Nelly Mandl, née Pressburger, marr. Brash, died on December 16th, 1972 in Los Angeles/USA.
