Karl Menger

Karl MENGER (born on January 13th, 1902 in Vienna, died on October 5th, 1985 in Chicago) was ao. Prof. for Mathematik at the Philosophical School of the University of Vienna.
He was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew lost his position and was thrown out of the university in 1938. He was able to emigrate to Chicago/USA. He was honoured at the University of Vienna in 1998 by naming one of the "Doors of rememberance" ("Tore der Erinnerung") at the Campus of the University of Vienna "Menger-Tor" (door between Court 1 and 4).
