Johann Karl MATTUSCHKA (born on August 20th, 1900 in Klagenfurt/Carinthia), had graduated at the Medical School at the University of Vienna  on October 15th, 1937 with the academic degree 'Dr. med.'.

In times of Nazism the physician was registered by the Gestapo records department because of the "suspicion of activities for a pacifist sect" (wegen "Verdachts der Betaetigung für eine wehrfeindliche Sekte" on March 20th, 1942. He was deported to the concentration camp Dachau on June 6th, 1942, where he died on January 15th, 1943.
He was deprived of his academic degree on July 2nd, 1942 because of his political opinion.

It took 13 years since the deprivation – and a very long time since the end of Nazism – until the posthumously regranting of the doctorate took finally place on October 10th, 1955.
