Herta STEIGER, born on October 28^th, 1914 in Vienna/Austro-Hungarian Empire (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship 1938: Austria), daughter of Georg Steiger (1883–1942, invalidity pensioner) and Rifka Steiger, née Haftel (1889–1942), lived in Vienna's 9^th district, Harmoniegasse 10/15. She had passed her school-leaving examination (Matura) on June 27^th, 1934, at the Maedchenrealgymnasium in Vienna's 2^nd district, Novaragasse 30, and began studying Romance and English studies at the University of Vienna in the fall term of 1934/35. She was last enrolled in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 3^rd year of her studies and took courses in History and Romance languages and literature Studies. She had already registered for the final examinations (Rigorosen) on January 14th, 1938, the examiners were still being assigned, but before the examination date was set, she was no longer allowed to take part after the "Anschluss" for racist reasons and was forced to quit her studies and leave the University of Vienna. She had to flee from Vienna, but before that she married her fiancé Isidor Rader on July 18^th, 1938 in the City Temple. Her parents were not able to flee from Vienna in time and were both deported to Riga/Latvia on December 3^rd, 1941 from a "Sammelwohnung" in Vienna's 2^nd district, Ausstellungsstrasse 31/11 and murdered there. Herta Rader, née Steiger, survived the Holocaust and lived and worked in Palestine/Israel after 1945.
