Henriette KOENIGSTEIN, born on February 28th, 1915 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hans Koenigstein (1878-1954, dermatologist, university professor) and Anna Koenigstein, née Dukat (1882-1858) and lived in Vienna's 1st district, Georg-Coch-Platz 3. On June 20th, 1934, she had successfully passed the school-leaving examination (Matura) at the Girls' Realgymnasium ("Verein für realgymnasialen Maedchenunterricht") in Vienna's 8th district, Albertgasse, and began studying psychology, zoology and biology at the University of Vienna in the fall term of 1934/35. She was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Philosophical School in the 4th and last year of her studies and took courses in psychology and zoology.
She registered for the viva voce ("Rigorosen") on January 28th, 1938 and passed the first of the two final examinations on February 17th, 1938 (with the zoologists Prof. Jan Versluys (1873-1939) and Prof. Andreas Penners (1890-1952) with "excellent"). In March 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism, she was forced to quit her studies for racist reason, was no more allowed to take the second viva voce and was forced to leave the University of Vienna without graduation.
She had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to Great Britain in time. Her parents were able to emigrate to Palestine, where her father died in Tel Aviv in 1954, her mother then joined her in England and died in Battersea, London in 1958. Her brother Leopold Koenigstein (Leo Kingston, 1918-1993), who had also studied at the university in 1938, but at the medical faculty, was also expelled from the university, but was able to emigrate to the USA.
She later lived and worked in England under the name Jetty Graffe - little is known about her further life so far.
