Heinrich KAHR (KATZ) (born on December 14th, 1888 in Linz, died on September 7th, 1947 in Vienna), had graduated at the Medical School at the University of Vienna in 1914 with the academic degree 'Dr. med'. After serving in the Austrian army during World War I, he received his specialist training at the First university gynecological hospital (head: Prof. Heinrich Peham). He was promoted untenured professor in 1926 and worked as an assistant professor until 1930. From 1930 on Heinrich Katz – in 1933 he changed his surname into Kahr – was head of the Third maternity clinic of the University of Vienna and from 1934 on also of the school for midwives. In 1936 he became head of the re-opened First university gynecological hospital and was announced an extraordinary professor for Geburtshilfe und Gynäkologie at the Medical School of the University of Vienna.
He was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew lost his position and was thrown out of the university on April 22nd, 1938.
From 1939 to 1940 Kahr served in the German Wehrmacht and then run a private practice as gynecologist in Vienna until the ending of the war.
In 1945 he was appointed head of the Second university gynecological hospital and was elected dean of the Medical School in the years 1946/47 and 1947/48.
