Gertraud Ruth MAERZ (nee BLEIER), born on March 28th, 1915 in Salzburg (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), lived in Wien 19, Hungerbergstraße 10, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 4th year of her studies. She was married to Eduard Maerz since 1934.
Her husband Eduard Maerz succeeded to emigrate from Austria to Turkey in 1938 and to the USA in 1940. Meanwhile their daughter Eveline Elisabeth was born in Vienna in August 1938 – only a few months after the so called "Anschluss". End of December 1938 Gertraud Ruth Maerz was able to emigrate to Geneve (Switzerland), together with the baby. In Switzerland she was able to complete her medical studies at the University of Geneva in March 1941 with the academic degree "Dr.med.". Shortly after her graduation she left Switzerland via southern Franc, Spain and Portugal to emigrate to the USA, where the family was reunited. In 1947 their son Richard Otto (later Prof. at the University of Vienna respectively at the Medical University of Vienna, which was founded in 2004) was born in Boston/Mass.
The family returned to Austria in 1953, where Gertraud Ruth Maerz' academic degree was formally recognized ("nostrifiziert") by the University of Vienna. In 1979 she gained the title of a medical officer of health ("Medizinalrat").
Dr. Gertraud Ruth Maerz ,née Bleier, died on August 25th, 1990 in Vienna.
